Summer Snaps Round 4! 🌞📸 1. Fourth grader Kayden Spencer & Tonganoxie Elementary School kindergarten teacher Kelcie Spencer hiked part of the Appalachian Trail during their vacation to the Smoky Mountains! 2. Kayden Spencer enjoying the view from the top of Mt. Buckley along the Appalachian Trail in the Smoky Mountains 3-5. Senior Solomon Carter & sophomore Kate Carter took a road trip to visit family in Northern California, stopping at state & national parks in Arizona, the southern Oregon coast and California to appreciate some of America's beautiful landscapes and wildlife. Pictured are the Coquille River Lighthouse in Bandon, OR; south cove at Shore Acres State Park, Coos Bay, OR; and Hermit's Rest scenic overlook at South Rim, Grand Canyon National Park. 6. Rising first grader Cora Henderson went fishing at Opal Beach in Pensacola, Florida - she caught five fish with a net! 🐠🐟🐠🐟🐠 7. Incoming fifth grader Sadie Henderson played catcher in the USSSA Dust & Diamonds tournament - her team took home 2nd place! 🥎🥈 8-10. Tonganoxie Elementary School music teacher Julie Purin had the opportunity to go on an epic road trip to Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City. Summer Snaps #3! 1-2. Mae and Beau Atwood had an incredible opportunity to join their dad on a work trip to Hawaii last month. Their family explored every inch of Oahu's beauty & even spent some time with Mickey & friends at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa! 3. Rising Tonganoxie Elementary School second grader Miles Jewell and his fellow lemonade bruh Carter hosted their second-annual lemonade stand in Basehor. The Bruhs raised over $600 for the Leavenworth County Humane Society, Inc. and Christina Sliski State Farm Agency matched it! The boys have donated over $2500 the last two summers to the humane society. They were both so grateful for all the support! 4. The Wade family enjoyed their time in Chicago by visiting the Skydeck Chicago at the Willis (formerly Sears) Tower! 5. James Lewallen (7th grade) and his sister Hope (2022 Tonganoxie High School grad) went to Mount Rushmore the week of July 4th! 6-8. THS students Taylor Liebeno and Kate Wilson tackled the Manitou Incline in Colorado - 2,768 steps up! They also did some ziplining! 9. Substitute nurse Karlye Weatherford enjoyed paddleboarding on Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas, with students at the summer camp where she works as a nurse! 10. Caleb Weatherford ‘23 has a summer job working as a fishing and canoe guide at Gunflint Lodge and Outfitters in the boundary waters of Minnesota! Summer Snaps Round 2 is here! 1-2. Tonganoxie Elementary School third grader Trevor Burnett took a family vacation to Beaver Lake, where he and his family went kayaking and swimming and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Trevor also attended the Bill Self KU Basketball Camp at Allen Fieldhouse. While waiting in line for camp check in, Coach Self came into the gym to greet campers personally. He stopped Trevor and asked if he wanted a picture! Trevor says the camp was the coolest experience he's ever had! 3. Johanna Boone, rising Tonganoxie High School junior, and Amalie Boone, rising Tonganoxie Middle School seventh grader, spent Father’s Day kayaking at Leavenworth County State Lake. 4-6. Kaelyn and Jayce Baldridge riding the Mamba at Worlds of Fun and enjoying the day at Bloomington Beach at Clinton Lake with father Chris Baldridge; Jayce wrapping up baseball season! 7-8. THS special education teacher Nicole Snider took an amazing vacation to Wyoming, where she spent time soaking in the mountain views of the Tetons. 9-10. Summer Snaps Round 1 is live! 1. Rising TES first grader Loretta Radke toured the Fairmount Township Fire Department with her Girl Scout troop! 2-3. Loretta is also enjoying chalk art and playing outside with her brother Waylon and baby sister Rebecca this summer. 4-9. Tonganoxie Boy Scouts attended a week-long camp at the Kia Kima Scout Reservation in Hardy, Arkansas. Activities included whitewater kayaking, canoeing, swimming, shooting sports, cave tours, climbing, rappelling, fishing, and hiking. They also completed programs in art, astronomy, game design, inventing, model design, engineering, space exploration, animal studies, & veterinary medicine. 10. Superintendent Loren Feldkamp took part in the Tonganoxie VFW Military Vehicle Show & D-Day Encampment on June 22. Various military vehicles, artillery and equipment were on display, and reenactors recreated two D-Day skirmishes - The Battle for Foy and The Battle of Carentan.
