As we wrap up National School Bus Safety Week, we want to reinforce the importance of not illegally passing school buses. We need your community support to keep our students safe. If the extended stop-arm sign is out, DO NOT PASS. 🛑🛑🛑 #tongienation #usd464

National School Bus Safety Week is a great time to review some important bus safety habits:
🚌 Bus riders should arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes before the bus arrives.
🚌 When the bus arrives, students should wait until the bus comes to a complete stop, the door opens, and the bus driver says it is okay to get on or off. Make sure to use the handrails to avoid falls.
🚌 Students should never walk behind a school bus. If students must cross the street in front of a bus, they should make eye contact with the bus driver before crossing to make sure the driver can see them. They should walk on a sidewalk or along the street at least ten feet (five giant steps) in front of the bus before crossing, to avoid the danger zone. If students drop something near the bus, such as a book or phone, they should not try to pick up the item until they have notified the driver and the driver has told them it is safe to do so.
