Time for our last Summer Snaps of 2023!
1. Tonganoxie Middle School teachers Mrs. Fraley & Mrs. Kaighin were pregnant at the same time this past school year. Their babies were able to meet & have their first Starbucks playdate this summer! Baby Kaighin was born in late February, while Baby Fraley arrived in late April.
2. Seventh grader Solara Garcia traveled to Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa, with her 12U Aces Fastpitch Softball team!
3. Sophomore Grace Weatherford attended Seacamp, a marine science camp in Big Pine Key, Florida. She learned all about sailing & can now rig and de rig her own sailboat. She snorkeled the waters of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and learned about nurse shark tagging and coral preservation and restoration.
4 & 5. Tonganoxie Elementary School art teacher Miss DeWald got married on July 15th and is now Mrs. Dombeck!
6 & 7. Senior Santiana Garcia had a kimono photoshoot in Tokyo with her host sister, Mizuki Seki, as part of her FCCLA Kikkoman Scholarship Japanese Exchange Program. She also visited some of the local temples and shrines!
8. Freshman Abby Burkart attended the Garmin Engineering Camp at Garmin’s headquarters in Olathe, where she built and coded her own rover to complete various challenges during the camp’s final Mission to Pluto robotics competition.
9. Tonganoxie High School athletics secretary Mary Welsh has had a busy summer, attending her daughter’s wedding shower and her 45th Lourdes High School Class Reunion, as well as visiting the North Shore near Grand Marais in Minnesota and going to Las Vegas for her 63rd birthday!
10. Assistant Superintendent Tonya Phillips and her husband Shawn visited their son Blake in Washington, DC, where he is working as a staff assistant for Congressman Tracey Mann. They had the opportunity to tour the White House and Capitol building!

Summer Snaps Week 6!
1) The Wade family enjoyed their vacation to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park!
2) Bella McNeely, Brooke Nihart, Reece Schmidt, Sydney Kirchoff, and Parker Welsh (not pictured) competed at the AAU Track & Field Regional Qualifier in Yukon, Oklahoma.
3 & 4) High school special education teacher Madelyn DeKeyser and her husband found out they are having a baby girl!
5 & 6) High school math teacher Stacy Emmot and her husband traveled to Marysvale, Utah, where they rode over 400 miles on the Paiute Trail in their UTV!
7 & 8) High school assistant principal Kelly Hoopes vacationed with her family in Colorado Springs, Colorado!
9 & 10) Fourth grade teacher Amy Olsen celebrated her birthday at the Happiest Place on Earth, traveling to Disneyland in California!

While there are still 36 days of summer break to enjoy, we are busy gearing up for an awesome year! Please make note of these in-person enrollment dates. Online enrollment through Skyward, as well as our 2023-24 enrollment website with forms, will open this week. If you have a returning student, you will receive an email when online enrollment is available. Building administrators will be communicating additional information as necessary. Summer Snaps Week 5!
1 & 2) Kacy Marxen, one of our Tonganoxie Elementary School Early Childhood Special Education teachers, spent some time in Tennessee with her husband and son, visiting the Grand Ole Opry and Dollywood! 🚂
3) Staff from Tonganoxie USD 464 and Basehor-Linwood School District USD 458 took time out of their summer to learn ASL with Kim Storme! 🤟
4) Josey Eastes, Tonganoxie High School Dean of Students/Athletic Director, enjoyed a family trip to the beach in Destin, Florida. 🌞

Summer Snaps Week 4!
1 & 2) ESOL Coordinator Tracy Barnett and her family took a trip to Oklahoma City! They visited the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden and the Science Museum Oklahoma!
3) Fancy meeting you here! Tonganoxie Elementary School staff members Ashley Barton (nurse) & Amy Lawson (art) unknowingly booked the same cruise with their families! They sailed to Costa Maya & Cozumel, Mexico, from Galveston, Texas. 🚢
4 & 5) Tonganoxie High School Principal Cody Witte and his brothers backpacked the 26 mile Lost Creek Wilderness loop in Colorado's Pike National Forest. 🥾

Recent Tonganoxie High School graduate Cooper Waters '23 is continuing his HVAC studies this summer at the KCKCC Pioneer Career Center. He and other summer semester HVAC students are honing a variety of skills, including draining a tank, wiring for air-conditioning units, and testing connectivity with a clamp meter.


Summer Snaps Week 3!
1) Tonganoxie Elementary School second grade teacher Amanda Burress and her family visited the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum in Atchison. While there, they got to watch a plane flown by the Tuskegee Airmen fly in from the Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Museum in Detroit! They met Dr. Brian Smith (call sign "Dr. Freeze") and learned about the Airmen & their important role during WWII. Pictured are Dr. Freeze and Jameson & Jacob Burress (6th & 2nd grade, respectively).
2) Hunter Knotts went on his first float trip! Hunter floated the Current River with his dad and stepbrother Christian. They caught crawdads afterward!
3) Tonganoxie Middle School Principal Kasi Brown enjoyed doing some travelling with her husband this month!

January 2013: Tonganoxie High School debate team members win the 4-Speaker State Championship after victoriously debating whether the United States federal government should substantially increase its transportation infrastructure investment in the US.
