Having experienced the tragedies of fatalities and seriously injured peers and community members in accidents, THS FCCLA wanted to remind students that making bad decisions in vehicles by being impaired and/or distracted can change a life in an instant. With the help of local, county and state agencies, as well as volunteers from THS and the SADD chapter, students simulated a drunk and distracted accident scenario. Students also attended a Think First assembly and saw first-hand the kinds of mental and physical issues people face due to accidents such as these. Thank you to everyone for helping educate our students to help keep them safe. #tongienation #usd464 #fccla #thinkfirst

Several Tonganoxie High School students had the opportunity to attend Build My Future at the Stormont Vail Events Center in Topeka this week! Build My Future is a one day, interactive, construction career day. Students enjoyed getting some hands-on experience and learning about career opportunities in the trades, including what kind of training is needed, wages, working conditions, what a typical day looks like, and opportunities within the industry. #tongienation #usd464

If you heard barking coming from the chemistry room today, don't worry, that was just hydrogen gas! Mrs. McCoy's class worked on determining types of chemical reactions & how to experimentally determine the identity of unknown gasses in them. 🧪🧪🧪 #tongienation #usd464

We want to make you aware of an important event for our high school students that demonstrates the dangers of impaired and distracted driving. On Thursday, April 11, Tonganoxie High School will be conducting a mock car crash in conjunction with local law enforcement, emergency medical services, and the fire department. This will take place in two afternoon sessions, starting at approximately 1 pm and again at 2 pm in the Chieftain Park parking lot. The parking lot will be shut down prior to this event, but the park itself will remain open. Please park in an alternative location that day if you are visiting the park. The road in front of the parking lot will also be temporarily unavailable and cars will need to detour around the area during this event. Since this is a simulation to reflect what happens at a real accident site, you may see and hear numerous sirens from police, EMS, and fire vehicles. In addition, you will see large groups of students at the park, student actors who may appear to have injuries, and/or Quisenberry’s Funeral Home and Life Flight. In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

Bethany Overmiller said YES to FCS Education at the Kansas State FCCLA Leadership Conference. Congratulations Bethany! #tongienation #usd464 #fccla
