TES teachers attend their LETRS training! The LETRS course, taught by TES Instructional Coaches Amanda Albert and Kris Styes, meets the new state requirement that elementary teachers complete a structured literacy course. During the two-year course, teachers learn about proven scientific strategies to teach students to read. Albert and Styes, trained by LETRS, are Local Certified Trainers and provide instruction to USD 464 teachers who need to earn the required certification. Teachers are required to attend in-person sessions, read course materials, and participate in online instructional sessions. Teachers must also take a series of assessments and pass each one with at least 80% proficiency to earn their Science of Reading seal from the State of Kansas.

Students in Mrs. Schartz’s class at Tonganoxie Middle School created detailed farm dioramas to represent different types of farms. This aligned perfectly with the Tonganoxie Elementary kindergarteners wrapping up their own farm unit. The timing worked out wonderfully—the middle school students were able to visit and present their dioramas, giving the kindergarteners a hands-on opportunity to connect their learning to real examples. It was a meaningful and engaging experience for both groups!

Hooray! Hooray! It is the 67th day of kindergarten! Mrs. DeKeyser's class has been working hard at different activities involving the numbers 6 and 7. Together the class created 67th day of school hats and filled ten frames with 67 goldfish and raisins. Then they identified different ways to write 67 and displayed them on Mrs. D's face and arms. It has been a fun day to celebrate!

Over the last week, TES has been adding turkeys to the Flock of Thanks! Staff members have been writing down people and/or things they are thankful for and adding them to the flock. It's been so fun to watch the turkeys multiply through the week! TES is a thankful bunch! 🦃

Mrs. Marxen's three year old pre-k students are doing some hard work! They have been practicing "turn and talk" with a partner and sharing which foods help their bodies to grow strong. Using partner talk helps them to practice social skills and listening while thinking hard! 😊
