We want to make you aware of an important event for our high school students that demonstrates the dangers of impaired and distracted driving. On Thursday, April 11, Tonganoxie High School will be conducting a mock car crash in conjunction with local law enforcement, emergency medical services, and the fire department. This will take place in two afternoon sessions, starting at approximately 1 pm and again at 2 pm in the Chieftain Park parking lot. The parking lot will be shut down prior to this event, but the park itself will remain open. Please park in an alternative location that day if you are visiting the park. The road in front of the parking lot will also be temporarily unavailable and cars will need to detour around the area during this event. Since this is a simulation to reflect what happens at a real accident site, you may see and hear numerous sirens from police, EMS, and fire vehicles. In addition, you will see large groups of students at the park, student actors who may appear to have injuries, and/or Quisenberry’s Funeral Home and Life Flight. In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
