Amanda Burress, second grade teacher at Tonganoxie Elementary School, was in Topeka last week as Governor Laura Kelly signed a proclamation declaring April "Financial Literacy Month." The proclamation is aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of financial education in Kansas. Mrs. Burress has been an integral part of creating financial literacy standards for K-8 students; she spent last summer teaching professional development in western Kansas and helping teachers implement the new standards.
