Congratulations to THS senior Archer Grier, winner of the President's Environmental Youth Award, facilitated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency! The President's Environmental Youth Award (PEYA) is a program that recognizes outstanding environmental stewardship projects by K-12 students across the United States. It promotes environmental awareness and positive community involvement through projects developed by individuals, classes, or organizations. The program has been running since 1971, honoring a wide range of projects that protect air, water, land, and ecology, with awards presented to regional winners.

Archer led and coordinated a conservation project for the Scouting America Venturing Summit Rank Award at a community lake in Olathe. Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks biologist Zach Ramsay then nominated Archer for the US EPA PEYA award, which he won!

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks combined their award ceremony with the EPA’s, and Archer received his Presidential Environmental Youth Award last Thursday at a ceremony hosted by U.S. EPA Heartland Region in Lenexa, Kansas. The award ceremony included a project presentation by Archer to the EPA Water Quality division and other EPA environmental programs and directors, including Regional Administrator Jim Macy, and Kansas Wildlife and Parks biologist Zack Ramsay assisted in presenting Archer with his plaque. The ceremony was followed by a personal tour of the EPA Region 7 Science and Technology Center Laboratory.

Congratulations Archer; we are so proud to see you inspiring change in your community!
