Our boys basketball team had the opportunity to attend a Mid America Youth Basketball tournament in Wichita this past weekend, where they competed against other Kansas and Missouri high schools. After starting 0-2, the team did a great job of bouncing back and winning their next 3 games to finish 3-2 on the weekend.
In addition to the on-court competition, the weekend served as a valuable team-building experience. The group stayed together in an Airbnb, where they participated in several bonding activities that promoted collaboration, communication, and leadership. The eight student-athletes were divided into teams of two, each responsible for planning, shopping for, and preparing a meal for the group—no one burned the house down!
Evenings were filled with fun and fellowship, including s’mores around the fire pit, friendly games of pool and cards, and an NBA 2K video game tournament. These shared experiences helped foster a sense of camaraderie and team spirit that extended beyond the basketball court.
Throughout the weekend, our students showed significant growth not only as athletes but also as teammates and young leaders. It was a rewarding and enjoyable experience for both players and coaches, and we’re proud of how they represented our district both in competition and character. What a great foundation for the 2025 season!
