My name is Jill Conrad and I’m a first grade teacher. This is my 18th year teaching first grade. My first four years, I was in Grapevine, TX, the last 14 here at TES. There are many wonderful things about teaching first grade, but my favorite is seeing the reading progress my students make. It’s unbelievable!
I love snowy days, hanging out with friends and family, singing, and movies. I frequent the library at least once a week, love to wander around bookstores, and belong to a book club. I read all kinds of books, even books about reading. My favorite part of teaching first grade is, of course, teaching the kids to read!
I grew up in the small town of Riley, KS. My mom was a teacher and my dad was a wildlife conservation officer. My sister, Sara, lives in Broomfield, CO, with her husband, Dave, and my wonderful niece and nephews, Wyeth, 10, Harper, 8, and Barrett, 5.
I attended K-State, graduating in 1998 with a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I received a master’s in education from Mid-America Nazarene in 2006. In 2012 I was trained in the Reading Recovery theory through Emporia State.
