My name is Amanda Albert and I teach kindergarten at Tonganoxie Elementary School. I hail from Tonganoxie and grew up in the Tonganoxie school system. After graduating with a BS in Elementary Education from Kansas State University in 2011, I was fortunate enough to find a job in the town I grew up in and now I am entering into my 5th year of teaching!
I live in Tonganoxie with my mom, Marcia, and my sweet little Shih Tzu, Izzy, as well as many cousins and friends that are just like brothers and sisters to me! When I’m not hanging out with sweet kindergarteners I enjoy watching and attending Kansas City Royals games, coaching High School softball, and spending quality time with my family and friends!
Our year in kindergarten is a busy one as we have much to cover in just a few months! We begin the year going over basic school skills such as appropriate classroom behavior and daily classroom procedures. We spend our year in language arts learning about letters and sounds, sight words, and other foundational reading skills that prepare students for reading books independently later in the year! In Math we cover numbers, shapes, counting, writing numbers, and even addition and subtraction later on in the year. Our class will also spend time in science and social studies doing hands on activities, as well as traveling around the school to music, physical education, health, and art! On top of our core subjects we also spend time practicing sharing, responsibility, and being a kind and caring friend. Most importantly….we like to have fun! : )
